Umpqua Bank Reno

A passion project for then-CEO of the bank, we took an existing building originally designed in the 1940s and brought it into the modern era. The structure of the building was our biggest challenge, as the original flared concrete columns could not be altered in any way due to the integral methodology of distributing load. To raze the building was not an option. Instead, the design integrated the columns within an expanded footprint, and despite the obstructiveness of solid concrete masses, were able to achieve a transparent storefront. Materials were chosen for their ability to withstand extreme climate fluctuations, as in Reno, it will snow and the sun can beat down.
